Caribbean Stud Poker is a poker based casino card game that is played against the dealer. It has become popular among casino players due to the fact that it offers the chance at big pay offs for certain hands. It is also quite common for there to be an option to place a $1 side bet in order to win a progressive jackpot.
Aim of the Game
To get the best possible poker hand (See : Poker Hand Rankings) and beat the dealer. To win any prize with the side bet you need to have a flush or higher.
Game Rules
Caribbean Stud is played with a single deck of 52 cards. Players must make an ante in order to receive their five cards. On the deal each player is dealt five cards face down and the dealer is dealt five cards with one face up and the rest face down. Players must then decide whether they wish to bet or fold. If the player chooses to bet they must place twice the ante on the table.
After all players have made their decision comes the showdown. The dealers cards are revealed. There are three possible outcomes - Dealer does not qualify, Dealer qualifies and dealer wins or dealer qualifies and player wins. For the dealer to qualify the dealer must have a hand of Ace king or higher.
In the even that the dealer does not qualify any active player gets back their bet and double their ante. If the dealer does qualify and the players hand is better than the dealer the player gets 1 to 1 on their ante and the bet paid according to the pay off schedule. This varies from casino to casino.
Below are the typical pay outs found online.
- Royal Flush : 100 to 1
- Straight Flush : 50 to 1
- Four of a Kind : 20 to 1
- Full House : 7 to 1
- Flush : 5 to 1
- Straight : 4 to 1
- Three of a Kind : 3 to 1
- Two Pair : 2 to 1
- One Pair : 2 to 1
Many casinos also offer a side bet option for a progressive jackpot. This bet must be made at the same time as the ante. In most cases this is a $1 bet that only pays off if the player has a hand of a flush or better. Pay outs for the progressive can vary from casino to casino. The most common pays are as follows.
- Royal Flush : 100% of the Progressive Jackpot
- Straight Flush : 10% of the Progressive Jackpot
- Four of a Kind : $500
- Full House : $100
- Flush : $50

You are then dealt five cards. Now you must decide if you have a hand and if you will fold or bet. If you decide to fold the hand ends.
If you decide to bet you must place a bet double the size of your ante on the bet position on the table. After this the dealers cards will be revealed and you will find out if you win or lose. Side bet winnings are also paid out at this point.
