Slot Machine Wagering Down in Las Vegas
Date Posted : September 14, 2008
The gambling industry has long been though to be immune to economic conditions with gamblers playing no matter what state the economy in in. This seems to have changed with the Nevada Gaming Control Board releasing figures showing that revenues from slot machines in Las Vegas are down.
In July alone slot machine volumes were down 12% - the worst of what looks to be a trend of gamblers staying away from the Vegas casinos. The 12% drop equates to $1.1 billion less than in the previous month. In June the decline was 10% so it appears that things might continue getting worse before they get better.
As yet there have been no clear statistics released by the online casinos to indicate any drop in revenues. On the contrary many of the casinos that have a European focus appear to be seeing increasing revenues. Looking at the rate of growth of the progressive jackpots we can see no real change in wagering volumes.
It is possible that players are avoiding spending their money on travel and hotels and instead spending the money on playing online. This is one of the big advantages of online casinos - you can spend your entire bankroll on gambling rather than on hotels or travel.
