Microgaming Casinos Stop Taking USA Players
Date Posted : November 4, 2008
In an unpredicted twist Microgaming have announced that as of November 10th, they will no longer be accepting new players from the USA. In addition to this it appears that all US player accounts will be closed before the end of 2008. This shuts the door on a long history of Microgaming being the most popular online casino software among US players.
While there is speculation about what has caused this action there are several key reasons that come to mind. The first is the Kentucky case where the state of Kentucky attempted to seize 140 domain names. These domain names were all used by online casinos and even Microgaming.com was on this list.
Microgaming tries to block all visitors from Kentucky but it appears that the technology was not exact enough and they then moved to block all players from states near Kentucky. This also failed so the step was taken to simply block all visitors from the USA. US visitors now are reporting getting a "Site Unavailable" message when visiting the Microgaming web site.
Another possible reason for the pull out is the ever increasing costs of servicing the US market with the difficulty in payment processing. Plus the UIGEA regulations are being finalized before the change over in the US government. All of these factors have let to the end result that US players can't play at Microgaming powered online casinos anymore.
If you are in the USa you choices as to where to play have decreased considerably since the UIGEA passed into law. Today the only software providers that we recommend are Vegas Technology and some RTG casinos. For a full list of US friendly online casinos see our Online Casinos for US Players section.
